Exploring Nature's Palette: Where Colour Meets Creativity
In the company of my patient husband, who accompanies me on my quest for the perfect scene every weekend, camera in tow, I traverse the country. Together, we seek out the ideal composition, the fleeting moments that whisper of artistic brilliance. And of course, I share my abode with three mischievous cats, always ready to observe my artistic endeavours or playfully chase any stray pencil that falls to the ground.
Through my art, I endeavour to capture the beauty that permeates our world, celebrating its colours, its rhythms, and its boundless wonders. Join me on this journey, as we embark upon a visual exploration that invites you to pause, marvel, and revel in the extraordinary tapestry of life.
Through the last decade I have had to mitigate the impact of partial sight loss on my creative endeavours. When faced with the challenge of diminished vision, many artists embark on a courageous journey of adaptation and innovation, finding creative ways to continue expressing their artistic vision, this has encouraged me to explore various media in my pieces.
From the earliest days of my existence, painting and drawing have been woven into the fabric of my being. As an artist, I am endlessly captivated by the world around us, and it is my fervent passion to capture its essence on canvas. In this fleeting existence, where time is a precious commodity, I strive to encapsulate those moments and scenes that bring a sense of joy to our world.
Embracing a diverse range of mediums, including Pastel, Charcoal, Ink, Acrylic, and even modern digital technology, my artistic expression knows no bounds. Many of my works are a harmonious fusion of these mediums, allowing me to unleash a unique visual narrative.
Nestled in the heart of Perthshire, Scotland, within the historic village of Dunkeld, I find myself immersed in a landscape teeming with inspiration. The Scottish highland wildlife, landscapes, and blossoms that surround me serve as an eternal muse for my creations, as does the broader Scottish national landscape.
Adapting my working methods has become paramount. I regularly experiment with magnification tools, adaptive lighting, and high-contrast colour palettes to enhance visibility.
The emotional and psychological adjustment is equally important. I have confronted feelings of loss and had to redefine my artistic identities. Through this process, I have discovered new perspectives, unique styles, and innovative approaches that I have would have never explored otherwise.
Support from the artistic community and loved ones has been crucial. Collaboration with fellow artists facing similar challenges provides guidance and motivation. Above all, it is the unwavering determination, passion, and indomitable spirit of other artists with partial sight loss that has enabled me to transcend my limitations and continue creating beautiful and meaningful artworks.
